Illinois Black Panther Party Historic Preservation

I have worked with Mikey Spehn and Leila Wills to help preserve the history of the Illinois Black Panther Party since January of 2021, participating in panel discussions, oral interviews, mapping sites, online exhibits and websites, and finally historic preservation work.

Author of a National Register Multi Property Submission for the Illinois Black Panther Party. If accepted by the National Park Service it would provide a path for landmark status for IL Black Panther sites. Our application will go under review the first months of 2022.

Since November of 2021 Leila, Mikey, and I are partnered with Chicago History Museum to produce an online exhibit on the community activism of the Illinois Black Panther Party in partnership with surviving party members as well as second-generation Panther “Cubs.” In January of 2022, Che Brooks, the former minister of education for the Illinois Party and authority on the history of the party, Leila Wills, historian J.W. Rice, historian Mikey Spehn, and I will become founders of a 501c organization dedicated to preserving the history of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party.
